Safety Is Our 1st Concern! Is It Yours?

On Wednesday, two individuals posed as Pepco employees, gained entry to a customer’s home, and it resulted in a robbery and a homicide.  The suspects have since been arrested and charged for these heinous crimes.  It was an unfortunate and deeply tragic event and I want to take a moment to educate customers and equip them with useful information to avoid potential future situations like this.

Safety is Pepco’s first core company values and it doesn’t stop with our employees.  The safety of our customers and their families is just as important to us.  Whether a residential or commercial customer, we want to remind everyone to practice safety when someone claiming to represent a business contacts them either in person or by telephone. This recent incident reemphasizes the need to be safe and knowledgeable when someone comes to your door.

Pepco will contact customers in person or on the phone for various business reasons. If someone claims to represent the company, it is important that customers take precautions to verify that the person is affiliated with the company.

Our employees are supposed to carry their company identification with them at all times.  If one comes to your door, ask for their identification.  If they don’t have it, do not open your door and immediately call our Customer Care department at 202-833-7500.  If you feel your immediate safety is in danger, call the police.
